The Wellesley News

I began writing for The Wellesley News as a Staff Writer in 2015 and fell in love with the rhythmic pace of pitching, researching and writing weekly stories for The News. As a student-athlete at Wellesley College, I brought an in-depth perspective to the Sports section, and I ultimately held the roles of Assistant Sports Editor and Sports Editor. I was able to use my access within Wellesley’s athletic community to highlight sports on campus, while also tapping into my own interests as a sports fan to provide our readers with relevant storylines from the outside sports world. Below you can read through some of my favorite articles from my time with The Wellesley News.

WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE THE PATRIOTS SO MUCH?

“As we approach Super Bowl Sunday this weekend, the Wellesley community will be tuning in along with the rest of the country’s football fans. For some, a Patriots victory will continue to solidify the team’s place in history and delight the dedicated fan base. For others, however, the potential of seeing this polarizing team defeated will keep them glued to the game.”

WHY #METOO MATTERS IN SPORTS

“The sports world needs to find a way to embrace victims of sexual assault. Women in sports are susceptible to unreasonable power dynamics and should be educated early on about what sexual assault looks like. The #MeToo movement has given these women a platform to share their story, but the response to their stories in the sports world needs to be more pronounced.”

PREPARING FEMALE ATHLETES WITH WELLESLEY STRENGTH

“The Wellesley College Strength and Conditioning team designs specific workout plans to target knee strength in female athletes, which they perform in addition to regular lifting and conditioning sessions. Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletic Trainer Tim Snyder noted that while treatment of knee injuries is important, the focus also needs to be on preventing the injuries from occurring.”
